Our Story

Supporting Families with Care and Steadiness

Pelita was built around a simple idea: older people deserve practical, respectful support — and their families deserve peace of mind.

Who We Are

Started in a Family's Kitchen, Still Going the Same Way

Pelita began in 2016 when our founder, Ramlah Hashim, found herself managing the care of her own elderly mother from across the city. What she needed then was not a nursing arrangement — it was someone dependable to handle the small things: organising the weekly shop, accompanying her mother to a community lunch, making sure a birthday felt properly celebrated.

Unable to find that kind of help easily, she put together a small team of local companions and coordinators and began offering the same support to other families in Kuala Lumpur. Word spread steadily, and Pelita grew — not through advertising drives, but through one family telling another.

Today, Pelita operates across KL with a team of nine. The approach has stayed the same: begin with a proper conversation, understand the person being supported, and put together an arrangement that fits their actual week.

Our Guiding Values

  • Listen First Every arrangement begins with understanding what the person and family actually want — not what is most convenient to offer.
  • Honest and Clear We say clearly what we do and do not do. Families always know the scope, the timing, and the cost before anything begins.
  • Respectful Presence Our companions work quietly in the background, following the older person's lead rather than imposing a schedule or pace.
  • Steady and Reliable The same familiar faces, on time, as arranged. Changes are discussed with families in advance, never sprung on them.

How We Work

Our Operational Standards

A set of consistent practices keeps the quality of support steady regardless of which team member is involved.

Background-Verified Staff

All Pelita companions and coordinators pass a thorough background review before their first assignment. References are checked directly.

Written Arrangement Summary

Every family receives a written summary of the agreed arrangement — scope, days, responsibilities — so expectations are always clear on both sides.

Strict Information Handling

Family and personal details are held only within the Pelita team. Nothing is shared with outside parties. Our privacy practices follow Malaysian PDPA guidelines.

Monthly Check-Ins

Each family on a recurring programme receives a monthly summary and a short check-in call to review how things are going and whether any adjustments are needed.

Family Satisfaction Reviews

Families are invited to give honest feedback after each arrangement phase. This input shapes how Pelita trains and develops its team.

Ongoing Team Development

Companions and coordinators attend regular internal sessions on cultural sensitivity, communication, and managing different household environments sensitively.

Home Companionship and Coordination in Kuala Lumpur

Pelita operates across Kuala Lumpur's residential neighbourhoods, offering families a dependable way to keep an older relative well supported at home. The work sits entirely in the everyday — arranging occasions, coordinating errands, accompanying people to outings, and keeping the family informed throughout.

Malaysian families often carry the weight of managing an older relative's weekly routine from a distance, fitting visits around demanding work schedules and travel. Pelita was built to ease that weight by handling the coordination work that otherwise falls to family members — confirming appointment times, working out transport logistics, or making sure a birthday at home runs smoothly.

The team brings eight years of experience supporting older residents across Bangsar, Damansara, Chow Kit, and surrounding areas. Familiarity with local transport routes, community centres, and neighbourhood vendors means that day-to-day arrangements are handled with practical knowledge, not guesswork. Cultural and religious considerations are always respected, and arrangements are adjusted accordingly.

Pelita does not provide registered care, nursing, or any form of professional support requiring a licence. Families who need those services are signposted to the right professionals. What Pelita offers sits alongside those needs — reliable, human, and geared toward the older person's comfort and connection.
